Great Short Stories Online Class

This class will introduce students to some of the great short stories of world literature, while also teaching them valuable techniques of literary criticism along the way. The stories selected will have an emphasis on the exotic, macabre, and fantastic. Authors will include Poe, Kleist, Kafka, Isaac Bashevis Singer, Angela Carter, and Clarice Lispector.

What We Cover

1 hour per week for 6 weeks

Learn close reading and literary analysis through a curated selection of short, but powerful works.
Identify key motifs and themes.
Understand tone, plot, and structure.
Gain the confidence to draw your own original insights from any short story you read.

After attending Saint Ann’s in Brooklyn, Nick graduated magna cum laude from Yale University in 2016, where he studied fine art, literature, and foreign languages. He served as a peer French tutor for the Yale Center for Language and also volunteered to tutor inmates at Connecticut Youth Prison. Since graduating, Nick has worked as a studio assistant for renowned artists and completed art residencies in London and Berlin.
