SHSAT Class for 7th & 8th Graders

Our SHSAT classes combine the best parts of personalized education with the best parts of a group class. We match students of similar skill levels, creating small groups of six learners max., so students can have the individualized attention they need and learn from each other. The SHSAT is a difficult and competitive entrance exam for 8th graders. That is why we start motivated 7th graders in our SHSAT pre-prep groups. Class participants review math fundamentals, become strong readers, learn the rules of English grammar, and gain test-taking expertise. Our tutors start with a diagnostic exam, cover important math and ELA topics, and teach test-taking skills as part of their curriculum. Our approach is data-driven and includes full-length exams and homework to track students’ progress.

Why Study for the SHSAT with Us?

Advanced Math and ELA in a Small Group
The SHSAT is a challenging test and students must master elementary and middle school math, including some algebra concepts, in order to do well. Equally important is mastery of the rules of English grammar, understanding poetry, and being a careful and fast reader. Our tutors are test prep experts and offer content instruction in a small group setting, which means the instruction is personalized and engaging, while allowing students to learn from each other.

Even students who are masters of more advanced math topics and fantastic readers often find themselves plateauing or not getting a top SHSAT score. This is because the test the SHSAT requires a strategic approach. Virginia, NYC Parent
Savannah is amazing!! Aside from teaching her the necessary skills, she really built my daughter’s confidence. Our daughter Georgina went into the exam feeling confident about her abilities and had a great experience at the SHSAT exam.
NYC Dad
Jenni is a compassionate SHSAT tutor. She is only great support during the sessions, but she also makes herself available off hours when the kids have questions. We're so happy we worked with her for SHSAT prep!
Meg, 8th Grade Mom
My daughter got great news….she scored 557 on the SHSAT and got an offer from her #1 choice: Bronx Science! As you can imagine, she is thrilled! Thank you to you and the Ivy Tutors team for providing her with such great preparation - it is wonderful to see her hard work pay off!

What is a Semi-Private Class?

Semi-Private

Share the cost of a senior tutor with 2 to 5 other students and learn in a group setting! Students benefit a group because they learn from each other, hold each other accountable, and have fun together! We don't believe that classes of more than 6 students have the same effect, so we call our classes "semi-privates."

Private 1-to-1 Tutoring

Private tutoring has its benefits too. For the most personalized test preparation services, you'll want to work with a tutor 1-to-1. The curriculum and learning style will be uniquely matched to the student. Many of our clients start with a semi-private class and continue with more targeted, private prep closer to the test date.
