In addition to strong academics, Catholic high schools in New York offer students religious education and experiences, opportunities for service, and college coursework through partnerships with local Catholic universities. There are currently 43 Catholic high schools in Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island under the Archdiocese of New York, and 15 under the Diocese of Brooklyn and Queens.

These Catholic high schools serve a broad community of students. Though the Catholic faith guides their programming and ethos, most of these high schools accept students from all faith backgrounds. Additionally, while almost all of these schools require a yearly tuition, most also offer academic and/or need-based scholarships.

All of the New York Catholic high schools select students through an application process which may include teacher sponsorship or recommendations, past standardized test scores, entrance exams, interviews, and/or a written statement of purpose. The TACHS exam is a crucial part of the application process for most of these schools, and also serves as a deciding factor for many academic scholarships.
