Lisa grew up in New York City, attending specialized public schools P.S. 87, Delta (MS 54) and Bronx Science, and Columbia University. Through years of her own experience as a well-known tutor and mentor in NYC, she came to understand how a tutoring relationship can be life-changing for a student and began expanding her company in 2003. Lisa also enjoyed a 13-year corporate career in consumer products, spending 3 of those years in a C-level role before returning to IVY to pursue her mission to help students find joy in learning.
Education has always been Richard’s top priority. After Brown University and Rhode Island School of Design, he taught 3rd graders in East Harlem, then 7th grade Vietnamese students in an anti-gang program in Brooklyn. Both his sons were blessed with wonderful teachers at P.S. 87, MS 54 Delta, and Beacon. Richard served 11 years on the P.S. 87 PA board and founded a school garden where he taught. He now conducts alumni interviews for Brown. An award-winning filmmaker for more than 30 years, Richard also creates videos for students applying to college.
Meet Our Tutors
A graduate of Horace Mann, currently at Stanford University studying math and political science, Alex is passionate about sharing knowledge and experience with younger students. Throughout high school and college, in New York City and Palo Alto, he has tutored a wide range of subjects and test prep to various ages and types of learners. He strives to understand individual’s needs and learning styles to customize his tutoring method and approach.
In 2003, Lisa started a company that helped change the landscape of tutoring and test preparation in New York City. She was 20-years-old at the time and a student at Columbia University (also a Bronx Science alum). Her vision was to build a network of passionate, caring, and brilliant students and graduates who would act as mentors for school-aged kids through the 12th grade. Today, we match hundreds of families, schools, and companies with rock-star tutors each semester.
