Our Story
At three hours and 100 questions, 50 in English Language Arts (ELA) and 50 in Math, the SHSAT is one of the longest and most challenging exams many New York City eighth graders will take. Beginning with the 2026 administration, the SHSAT is digital and computer-adaptive, creating a new testing experience for students preparing for admission to NYC's specialized high schools.
That's why effective SHSAT preparation requires more than simply reviewing content. At Ivy Tutors Network, we start with a diagnostic assessment to understand each student's strengths, areas for improvement, and goals. From there, we create a personalized SHSAT prep plan that combines targeted skill development, test-taking strategies, adaptive-format practice, and structured work between tutoring sessions.
Students often need additional support with ELA skills such as reading comprehension, grammar, and revising/editing, as well as Math and the time pressure of the exam. Our tutors use focused practice and proven strategies to help students strengthen these skills while becoming more confident and strategic test-takers.
