Born and raised in Indianapolis, Maya is a proud Midwesterner who graduated as Valedictorian from her high school with an International Baccalaureate diploma. She went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude from Yale University, double-majoring in Environmental Studies and African-American Studies. As a student employee at the Yale Peabody Museum’s Education Department and dedicated facilitator of many political education circles on campus, Maya has worked to foster collaborative learning environments. She believes in the power of holistic education, hoping to serve as both a tutor and mentor to her clients. Beyond her extensive experience in research and writing, Maya has taken French since she was eight years old and spent two months as an au pair in France this summer!

Bizarrely, Maya learned to whistle when she was 6 months old. Legend has it that her grandfather would hold her and whistle, and one day she whistled right back!
