Martin hails from “Lawn Guyland,” New York, though years in New England--and, more recently, Olde England--have rendered him more presentable to polite company. As a non-legacy student from a large, unexceptional school district, he received admissions offers from Cornell, Columbia, University of Pennsylvania, Princeton, Dartmouth, Brown and Harvard, his alma mater, where he graduated with honors in 2016. Martin has nearly 7 years tutoring and 5 years consulting in college admissions and college essay writing. He has consulted in the US and internationally, with a demonstrated record of success with students of wildly different backgrounds, goals, and levels of academic performance. He is currently working with many high schoolers to develop lists of college targets and potential majors, discuss extracurricular activities, and conceptualize and draft personal statements. His role as a Harvard alumni interviewer makes his interview coaching services even more valuable. He peer tutored 3 years at Harvard, assisting fellow undergraduates with essay writing and comprehension of course materials; he received praise for his high degree of preparation and “natural aptitude for teaching.” Following graduation, Martin taught American History at Success Academy Charter School in New York City. In addition to his role as a classroom teacher, he also excelled as an individual and small-group writing and test prep coach, overseeing dramatic improvements in his students’ writing ability and state exam scores. Martin has tutored private clients for the SAT, ACT, SAT II subject tests, and AP exams, and expanded his college admissions consulting practice to include clients from all over the United States, as well as Europe and China. Martin never ceased his political and historical research and, in 2019, he was named a Scholarly Fellow of the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, which helped fund a one-year MSt in History at the University of Oxford. While overseas, Martin became an avid swimmer, met his life partner, and had a grand old time writing about the radical utopian communities of the Illinois prairie. Back in the United States, Martin is most enthusiastic about guiding students through the college application process and improving their writing, especially for the all-important personal statement.

Martin has been a Game Master in Dungeons & Dragons for six years and runs a continuous monthly campaign.
