Gabriel is a second year undergraduate student at the New School simultaneously pursuing a BA in English literature and a BFA in Jazz performance. Starting in high school, he has accrued significant experience as a teacher, including four years as a tutor and teaching assistant for Gustavo Dudamel's Youth Orchestras of Los Angeles. He has developed curriculum for and taught courses in English, creative writing, speech and debate, as well as music, both in the U.S. and Shanghai. He performed as a classical percussionist while maintaining above a 4.0 GPA at one of the top performing arts schools in Los Angeles. Since moving to New York, he has excelled at the New School where he has made the dean’s list every semester. Meanwhile, Gabriel is growing his career as a freelance jazz bassist. This double life has informed Gabriel’s unique teaching philosophy. He uses his background as a musician to give students creative problem-solving tools they can apply to all academic disciplines. Gabriel, who specializes in working with students on their writing, encourages students to see writing as a process of self-discovery and as a means of communicating with and learning more about the world around them.

When he’s not studying or practicing music, Gabriel loves to cook!
