Are you ready for the SHSAT?

Clocking in at 3 hours, the SHSAT is probably the longest exam an eighth grader has ever taken. And because 30,000 kids take the test every year in October, but only about 6,000 can be accepted to one of New York City's 9 specialized high schools, the test is difficult by design.

We have been preparing New York's eighth graders for the SHSAT for 16 years. Our test prep approach starts with comprehensive diagnostic testing to pinpoint the student's strengths and weaknesses. We then develop a personalized plan for each student that includes test taking strategies, learning or relearning any content the child is missing, and a study plan for when the tutor is not with the student.

Strategies, content mastery and perfect practice are the 3 not-so-secret ingredients to getting the test score you want! And that's where the generalizations end. From learning style to skill level to attention to confidence, we believe every child is unique and benefits from being matched with the right tutor who will connect with the student and help her/him open new doors.

If you're just starting out on your NYC high school admissions journey, we know you probably have many questions. And we're happy to help answer those questions, free of charge. Call or email us anytime or simply click below.

How many hours of SHSAT tutoring are needed? What do you study first? How hard is the math? Will I be able to finish in time? All of these questions can be answered by taking an SHSAT practice test with us. Once you complete a diagnostic SHSAT practice test, our tutors will build a personalized study plan just for you!
