Randal Grant Kleiser

Randal is a first-year history Ph.D. student at Columbia University, focusing on the early modern Atlantic world, with strengths in European and American History. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in History and International Relations. He studied in Madrid, Spain and Sao Paulo, Brazil, developing his Spanish and Portuguese language skills. He started teaching early. For several years at Trinity School in NYC, he tutored math to middle schoolers and during summers in Maine taught intensive sailing to children ranging from 6-16. Recognizing how people learn differently, he constructed flexible lesson plans for visual, auditory, and kinesthetic (tactile) learners that he still applies to all his students.
