Michael Mount

At Brown University, Michael majored in Literary Arts, a hybridization of comparative literature and creative writing. He was an editor of the College Hill Independent, and was commencement day speaker for his graduating class. He garnered valuable insights into the machinery of the admission process during his internship in the Brown Admission Office. Since graduation, his career path has taken him to both coasts: he worked in New York City for the post production company behind Inside Llewyn Davis and True Grit, and tutored extensively in Portland, Oregon. He is a 2017 MacDowell fellow, having recently finished his first novel. His writing has appeared on NPR, in Pacifica Literary Review, and is forthcoming in Scalawag, a political journal for the American South. He is a native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, the rare hyphenated town that produced or harbored such luminous figures as Chris Paul, Ben Folds, and Maya Angelou.
