Lucia Appelquist

Lucia is studying for her MA at Columbia University in Global Thought. She is researching globalization and writing her Master’s thesis on bilingualism in education. Her interest in globalization was piqued during her semester abroad in Bangalore, India, while getting her BA in English at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. After graduating cum laude, she received her 120-hour Teaching English as a Foreign Language Certification. She ventured to Shenyang, China, teaching English to 12 Chinese-speaking four-year-olds, five days a week, for seven months, developing unending patience. She has instructed yoga for four years, and is currently teaching at the Harlem Yoga Studio. Her combined experiences have given her insights into individual learning styles, so that she can tailor her tutoring to the needs of each student.
