John Gaipa

John, originally from Denver, is thrilled to live in NYC as a first-year medical student at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he majored in Chemical and Biological Engineering. Before beginning medical school last fall, John spent three years teaching 6th and 8th grade math in Houston. In this capacity, he developed students of all ability levels into excellent mathematicians, and developed a passion for personalizing learning to best fit the unique needs of individual students. While teaching, he also facilitated a computer programming club, and coached both academic competitions and lacrosse. John volunteers as an interpreter for Spanish-speaking patients at a student-run clinic, and spends his free time watching soccer and exploring the city. With high expectations for students, he engages and supports them to elevate their performances to their highest level.
