Barbara Cortes

Barbara recently graduated from NYU, cum laude, with a major in Psychology, minor in Sociology and completed the pre-medical coursework. In high school, Barbara was an International Baccalaureate candidate and graduated top 1% of her class. She scored 98 or above on all of her NYS Regents exams, including Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Algebra 2, Trig, Geometry and Algebra 1. Barbara has an individualistic approach towards teaching and seeks to comprehend each student’s personal needs as well as way of thinking in order to help students maximize their growth. She believes students should not view their capabilities as fixed, rather they should view them as malleable and set specific goals in order to challenge personal weaknesses while improving strengths. Barbara enjoys long-distance running, watching Grey’s Anatomy and hopes to one day run a marathon, attain a PhD in Neuroscience and work at the United Nations. She recently attended a week-long conference at the UN in which she collaborated with young, social leaders and engaged in various workshops involving public policy, non-profits, global issues and leadership development. She is also fluent in English, Spanish and French.

Barbara has a past history in sculpture and poetry. She participated in a 3-year sculpture program in high school and hopes to publish a book of poetry one day.
